CalmPace Wellness
Frequently Asked Questions
It’s okay to have questions before you begin.
How much does a psychology session cost?
Our fee is $250 for a session of up to 50 minutes. Eligible clients can receive a Medicare rebate, reducing their out-of-pocket cost.
Can I receive a Medicare rebate?
If you have a Medicare card and meet the eligibility requirements, you may access rebates for up to 10 individual mental health sessions per calendar year with a Mental Health Treatment Plan and a valid GP referral.
Your GP will assess your eligibility and arrange the plan and referral. A review and further referral may be needed to access your remaining sessions. The annual limit applies across eligible mental health providers, rather than 10 sessions with each provider.
How much will Medicare cover?
For an eligible psychology session lasting at least 50 minutes, the current Medicare rebate is $101.55. With our $250 session fee, your out-of-pocket cost is $148.45.
Do WorkCover clients have to pay?
CalmPace Wellness does not charge a gap for psychology sessions covered by your workers’ compensation insurer.
Please provide your claim number, insurer details and any relevant referral or approval documents before your appointment. We will confirm funding arrangements and bill the insurer directly for covered sessions. A claim number alone does not guarantee that treatment is funded.
Do you welcome Army personnel and veterans with PTSD?
Yes. We welcome current and former Army and other Australian Defence Force personnel experiencing PTSD, trauma-related difficulties, anxiety or challenges adjusting to civilian life.
We offer a respectful, trauma-informed space to explore your experiences and work towards your treatment goals. Please contact us before booking to discuss fees and any funding arrangements.
How soon can I get an appointment?
Our current booking wait time is less than one week. Availability can change, so please contact us for the next available appointment.
What happens in my first session?
Your first appointment is an opportunity to discuss what has brought you to therapy, how you have been feeling and what you would like support with.
We will explore relevant background information, discuss your goals and work together on a treatment plan. You are welcome to ask questions throughout the appointment.
Do I need to talk about my trauma straight away?
No. You do not need to share every detail of your experiences in your first appointment.
We work collaboratively and respect your readiness to discuss difficult experiences. Early sessions may focus on understanding your needs, building trust and developing strategies to manage distress.
What if I feel nervous or do not know what to say?
Feeling nervous before therapy is understandable. You do not need to prepare a speech or know exactly where to begin.
We can help guide the conversation, and you can let us know if you need a pause or feel uncomfortable discussing something.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions depends on your needs, goals and circumstances. We will discuss a treatment plan with you and review your progress together.
Medicare’s annual session limit is a funding limit; it does not determine how many sessions may be appropriate for your care.
How do I book an appointment?
Contact CalmPace Wellness to ask about availability and arrange an appointment. Let us know whether you intend to attend privately, use a Medicare referral or access workers’ compensation funding so we can explain what information is needed.
Do I need to be at breaking point to see a psychologist?
No. You deserve support before things become overwhelming. Whether you are feeling stressed, noticing patterns you want to change or simply finding life harder than usual, therapy offers space to understand what is happening and explore a way forward.
I seem fine on the outside, but I am struggling inside. Can therapy help?
You do not have to look distressed to deserve support. Many people continue working, caring for others and meeting responsibilities while feeling exhausted or overwhelmed inside. Therapy gives you space to talk about how you are really feeling.
What if I cry during my session?
Tears are welcome, and so are moments of silence. You do not need to apologise for becoming emotional or hold everything together during your appointment. We can pause and take things at a pace that feels manageable.
What if I have never told anyone what happened?
You can begin with as little as, “Something happened, and I find it hard to talk about.” You do not need to explain everything at once. We can first focus on what would help you feel more comfortable and supported.
The trauma happened years ago. Is it too late to seek help?
It is never too late to seek support. Past experiences can continue to affect relationships, sleep, emotions and how safe you feel. Therapy can help you understand these effects and explore ways to move forward, even when considerable time has passed.
Will I be judged?
Our approach is respectful, compassionate and curious about your experiences. You can talk about difficult feelings, thoughts or behaviours without needing to present a perfect version of yourself. We can explore concerns honestly while working towards your wellbeing and safety.
I have tried therapy before. Can I try again?
Yes. Your experience of therapy can depend on the relationship with your psychologist, the approach used and what you need at that point in your life. You are welcome to share what helped previously, what did not and what you would like to be different.
Can I tell you if something in therapy is not helping?
Absolutely. Your feedback matters. If an approach feels uncomfortable, unclear or unhelpful, we encourage you to tell us. We can discuss adjustments and consider other options together.
Can I seek support while still serving in the military?
Yes. Current serving personnel are welcome, as well as veterans. Before starting, we can discuss confidentiality, any relevant reporting or referral arrangements, and how sessions will be funded so you understand what to expect.
Do I need to know exactly what is wrong?
No. You might only know that you feel different, disconnected, worried or unlike yourself. Understanding what is happening can be part of our work together.
What does progress in therapy look like?
Progress can look different for everyone. It might mean sleeping more comfortably, responding differently to a trigger, setting a boundary or feeling more able to manage a difficult day. We will identify goals that are meaningful to you and review them together.
Do you offer telehealth psychology appointments across Australia and internationally?
Yes. CalmPace Wellness offers online psychology appointments across Australia and for clients overseas, subject to local professional requirements and suitability.
